Poznamo 3 tipe pogojnih stavkov:

Oblika:

* Would lahko zamenjamo tudi s could in might (tudi should, may, must)

Mogoče je uresničiti pogoj, ki je podan v pogojnem stavku.

Oblika:

Primeri:

If I study, I will pass the exams.
If you see John tonight,

tell him to e-mail me.

If Ben gets up early he can catch the bus.

II tip:

Teoretično je mogoče izpolniti pogoj, ki je bil podan v pogojnem stavku.

Oblika:

Simple Past would + infinitive ali
could + infinitive ali
might + infinitive

Primeri:

If I studied, I would pass the exams.

I could pass the exams.

I might pass the exam.

Nemogoče je izpolniti tak pogojni stavek.

Past Perfect would + have + past participle ali
could + have + past participle ali
might + have + past participle

Primeri:

If I had studied, I would have passed the exams.

I might have passed the exam.
