An electronic clock is placed on a white plinth. In the clock, 24 hours are reduced to 60 seconds – which is similar to the effect caused by travelling through space at slightly less than the speed of light. The intensity of light and the colour of the plinth change according to the light of day or night as shown on the clock. The installation thus re-creates the experience of travelling through space at just under the speed of light, as the rapidly changing light mimics the course of an entire day in just one minute. In a related earlier work, A Speedy Day (2003), the time of the day corresponded to the movement of light through a “window”. In A Speedy Clock, however, the time of the day is shown through a condensed spot which reflects the colour an intensity of the day, while the movement of light is shown in the rotation of a shadow
