live transmission of a heartbeat, bluetooth heartbeat receiver, live streaming via smartphone, computer, relay, light bulbs
programming: Miha Grčar /freekoders.org
production: Association DUM / Ljubljana
supported by: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, MOL Ljubljana
The project was first presented in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, and later in theVienna Secession.
In 2011, this project is launched on the basis of the modern technology: a bluetooth-enabled heartbeat sensor transmits the heartbeat signal to a smart phone which transmits it further to a Web server. From the Web server, the heartbeat signal is acquired by various computers all over the world in order to reflect the heartbeat in light sources in various places simultaneously.
During a live heartbeat transmission, a small USB kit can be used to blink a light source in the rhythm of the heart. The light source can be almost any electricity-powered lighting device such as a desk lamp, a powerful reflector, a street light, and even the lighting of an entire house.
Software requirements:Windows XP or later, .NET Framework 2.0 or later. Should also work on Linux and Mac OS underMono(not tested). Hardware requirements:Internet connection, computer with a serial port (or USB-to-Serial adapter), 2 diodes, relay, light sources.
Note that anyone is welcome to join the exhibition during the live transmission. In the case of public display, please acknowledge this project appropriately.
