A green card (international vehicle insurance) must be carried by all foreign drivers on their entry into Slovenia, with the exception of those from countries with which Slovenia has a special agreement. Foreign citizens without a green card may obtain short-term insurance in Slovenia (52 DEM for 15 days, 75 DEM for 30 days).

  • Fuel

    95 and 98 octane unleaded petrol (EUROSUPER); 98 octane petrol - leaded (SUPER 98); diesel D1 and D2 (DIESEL).

  • Tolls

    On motorways and in the Karavanke tunnel.

  • Roadside Assistance

    Tel: 1187 for AMZS services (the Slovenian Automobile Association).

    In case of accident call the police, Tel: 113.

  • Speed Limits, Safety Belts, Headlights

    Motorways (green signs) 130 km/h, main roads (blue signs) 100 km/h, other roads 90 km/h, in built-up areas 50 km/h. Safety belts must be fastened, including the ones on the back seats if installed. Main headlights low beam (not just the position lights) must be on at all times while driving, even in broad daylight.

  • Permitted Blood Alcohol Level

    Up to 0.5 g/kg for drivers of private vehicles and motor bikes; 0.0 g/kg for all professional drivers.

  • Rent-a-Car

    There are car rental agencies in all larger towns and international airports. All major companies are represented, including Hertz, Avis, Budget, ...
