Jib Fairleads

This is in my opinion the best jib fairlead system. It can be adjusted both up/down (same as fore/aft on the deck) and in/out.The system is very accurate and easy to adjust.
The vertical stainless steel tube is telescopic with a spring inside. The spring pushes up, a control line pulls down. In/out is adjusted by a pull-knob on the slider.Note that Pinnel&Bax tuning sheet recommends the same athwartships setting for most of the conditions.

Basically the same system, just simpler to build.

Instead of the custom made telescopic tube, there are two tracks with sliders and a simple tube. Control lines are used to move the assembly down and inwards, shockcord pulls it in the opposite direction.

To make it even simpler, one can get rid of the strings and use knob-sliders to adjust position.

Duvoisin boat

A Winder boat with 'string' fairlead adjustment. A block is adjusted in hight and athwartships using control lines. It should give one the same adjustability as the first system, however it is far less accurate. Also, the positions are more difficult to mark. It might be cheaper and lighter, but I would use one of the above described systems.

This system can be found in older wooden Winders as well as many other older boats.

The slider on a track can move in and out. The block is fastened to a line that runs through the eye on the slider. Pull the line and the block goes down, release it to move the block up.

This system is extremely simple and works well when the right positions are found. However it is a bit tricky to adjust and not as accurate as the first two systems.
