Občina Metlika lies in Southeast of Slovenia and in East of Bela krajina. In the North, East and South it (meji) on Croatia, in the Northeast on občina Novo mesto and in the South on občina Črnomelj.
In občina Metlika are two castels, one in Metlika and one in Gradac. Both stand there from (srednjega veka) and they both have had a lot of owners. In castel in Metlika are now collections of Belokranjski museum and Slovenski gasilski museum.
When Bela krajina in 15th and 16th century was (izpostavljena) attacks of Turki, Metlika was the main defense line against Turki. Turki first attacked Metlika and (jo izropali) in 1408, untill the year 1578
