The Pobrežje castle
is the most 'magic' part of Bela krajina for historians, ethnologists,
tourists and artists. Because of that it was described in a lot of Slovene
literature.

Pobrežje castle,
old vulture of the past,
wrapped in
grass-snake river Kolpa,
a lonely shepherd
in your hills,
tends his
flock of sheep at dawn.
(Maksim Gaspari,
1936)
The founder of
the castle was Ivan Lenkovič from Žumberk (Croatia). The castle was completed
in 1557. During the 2nd world war it was burnt twice. The ruins are protected
by Zavod za varstvo kulturnih spomenikov Slovenije.
In the courtyard
there are ruins of St. Florijan's church which was built in 1697 by Ivan
Adam Burgstall who was the owner of the castle at that time.
The portal from
late gothic is also worth seeing.
