Jovibarba globifera (L.) subsp. hirta J. Parnell
= short hairy houseleek
(syn. J. hirta, Sempervivum hirtum)

Close-up

Kum, 1220 m.

This form is mainly found in the East and NE calcareous pre-Alps, in soil that is usually, but not strictly, basophilic. The plant has globular rosettes that widely vary in size, from tiny to large, 3 -7 cm. The form in Polhograjski Dolomiti is rather larger than the eastern form. Leaves are glandular ciliated at the margins, and are curved to the center, so that the growing point is hidden. Petals are pale yellow, campanulate. There are 6 - 8 fringed petals, twice as long as the sepals. Plants flowers from August to September. They grow in Stajerska and Dolenjska, Gorjanci, Kozjansko, the Kamnik Alps, and Polhograjski Dolomiti.
