                                                1509 - 1568

BIOGRAPHY

Primož Trubar was born  in June 9, 1509 in a small village Raščica. At the age  of 12, he started to study for a priest. He was studying in Croatia and in Salzburg, Austria. Some years later, he met the bishop Bonom in Italy, who definitely influenced on Trubar’s life. The bishop handed him the parish so Trubar became the priest in Laško, later a preacher in the Ljubljana’s capital church. He encouraged the Protestantism and Martin Luther’s ideas and ideology. Because of that he was not so popular and then he left for Italy again. After some years of being  a priest at home he went to Germany. In Nurnberg he got married and he joined the protestant religion. There he started writing the books in Slovenian language in order to understand the new religion. He used the dialect of  the place where he was born – the village Raščica.

In the year 1561 he visited Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, where he was accepted with all honours. He made great efforts in foundation of the protestant church. Then he lived permanently in Germany until his death in 1568. He is buried in Germany, too.

His book about the church orders brought him many troubles.
