Abstract
The article was prepared
simultaneously with research conducted for the purpose of the exhibition
“Schooling in Ribnica during the school years of the poet France Prešeren”. At
the time of the Illyrian Provinces, Ribnica had an elementary school (trivialka) preparing students for further
education, which was attended by France Prešeren (1810-1812). The school was
held in high repute far around, including the provinces of Carniola, Istria and
Dalmatia. The best students – and Prešeren was one of them – were inscribed
into what was known as “The Golden Book”.
