ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Trnovo was an older settlement than Bistrica, mentioned already in the year 1260 by historical documents. Up to the World War Two Trnovo has been a prevailingly agricultural village. In the year 1814 a public school was founded there, the first on the territory of today's commune of Ilirska Bistrica; in the year 1888 the Convert of school Sisters of De Notre Dame was built there and became an important educational establishment for girls. The inhabitants of Trnovo also founded a savings' and credit bank, a cooperative diary and a Gym Club called Orel.

After the downfall of the Avstro - Hungarian Monarchy (1918) this place became with the 1920 Rapallo Convertion a part of the Italian Kingdom.

Trnovo became Torrenova, and finally the Italian authorities joined the two place (Ilirska Bistrica and Trnovo) into one commune with a new name Villa del Nevoso (the Village - place under the Snow
