A source from the 15th century says that 12 saw - mills and mills were operating on about a kilometre's length along the stream of Bistrica.

Valvasor mentions that Bistrica with its affluents turned round in the17. century as many as 45 mill - wheels and 16 water driven saw - mills.

Water saw - mills came to our area from territory of Venice and are therefore rightly called "the venetians". The saw - milling technique was accomplished by the Bistrica sawyers and millers to such a degree that 3 - milimetre battons were being produced for Italian customers in the 19th century. These were used for making citrus fruit boxes.
