Ilirska Bistrica, the town sheltered by the forests of Sneznik, at arm's length from the Quarner Gulf, and all the time by the
clear water of Bistrica.

It prides itself on the rich traditionof saw - mills and mills.

Nowadays an important boundary crossing at the border. The territory was inhabited as early as the prehistoric age, as it results from the traces of numerous sconces of Illyric tribes. Individual places in our commune were inhabited as early as the prehistoric age, in an early period of the history of mankind, as there still exist sconces as reminders, for example those at Dolnji Zemon, Draga, abave Knezak and elsewere.

Ilirska Bistrica lies by the river Reka’s upper stream and is a town consisting of two old settlements, Bistrica and Trnovo.

The place got its rights as a town in the year 1933.
