ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Anton Žnideršič was born 13th March 1874 in a house called "Košomatovih". He went to the elementary school in his home town and was then sent by his father to his uncle's, to Kočevje, where he attended four classes of high school. He had to take leave of this school due to the early and unexpected death of his father. Ha came back home and took over a pretty large property encumbered with quite a lot of debts.

His fame was based on his experiences of beekeeper. The Alberti beehive suited him most and he was trying to improve it for such a long time that he invented a new beehive. At the general assembly of the Slovene Society of Apiarists, whose committee member he was from its beginnings, they decided before World War One to call it the Alberti - Žnideršič beehive i.e. AZ beehive in short. It spread quickly over the Slovene territory and the Slovene beekeepers still use it nowadays as a most common beehive. He was awarded over 20 acknowledgements for his achievement.

He founded, with his partner, Mr. Valenčič from Trnovo, a considerably great and modern factory according to the standards of those times and gave it the namePEKATETE”, which meant "The first Carniolian factory of pastry".

He was President of the Firemen's Society at Bistrica for two mandates and Town Major at the beginning of the century as well. In the year 1930 he sold his property, fascism being the real reason, and moved to Ljubljana.

Anton Žnideršič was a writer as well. He wrote a book "Our beehive", translated and printed in Serbo - Croatian and German. He published article in various papers and even edited a newspaper for retailers.

He died in 1947 in a traffic accident in the middle of Ljubljana.
