It was made using the same engine as Trap door and featured large movable characters. The characters were not made from sprites which was unusal for a C-64 game, however this was a port from Spectrum and is therefore understandable. This way it was also possible to have a part of a character in front of something and part of it behind it, which would be impossible using sprites. Instead all things are written in hi-res. Doung all things in hi-res took CPU time and speed was noticeable different when more characters were present ina room. Also one other inheritance from spectrum was that everything was alligned to 8x8 char size. Movable objects were not rendered with background, but color was, so when Popeye was moving in front of a red house background was red allthough no lines were seen from the house. This effect can't really be called rendering sonce C-64 had a color ram and it was just fixed for a certain room. Everything written over that kept the original coloring.
Map had 15 rooms alligned in 4x4 grid. In some of the rooms it was possible to walk around the map as if it would be on a cylinder. Allthough rooms were drawn in 2D the map also had a third dimension which was presented when Popeye walked in front or behind a structure.
