Which Cinema is your Cinema, which Discotheque is your Discotheque?
Cardboard, mirrors, stroboscope, camera, monitor, 210 x 155 x 150 cm, 2001

Which Cinema is your Cinema, which Discotheque is your Discotheque? - First presented at the Pavel-House, Laafeld, Austria, spring 2001.
The object is an elongated spherical cardboard shell which hangs from the ceiling, about a meter and a half from the ground. There is a half meter wide hole on the bottom of the sphere, through which a reflection of a stroboscope can be seen. The visitor can go under the sphere and then put his head through the hole to the inside. The inside of the sphere is covered in tiny mirrors, 1 cm by 1 cm, and on the top there is strong stroboscope light. The visitor’s reflection is distorted by the mirrors, the flashing light only adding to the confusion, and thus the visitor’s orientation and balance are almost completely diminished.
Small, almost invisible black and white electronic camera is constantly recording the inside of the sphere and projecting the image onto the screen on the outside. There are questioners (Which cinema is your cinema? Which discotheque is your discotheque?) sticked to the outside surface. Pencils are available.
I wanted to create a space which would unite the idea of an absolute cinema and idea of a one-man discotheque. (T.P.)
