WALKERS

I want to describe our activity, which happens every year and has started long ago.

Every year, in the last weekend of June my husband and I take part in a traditional walking expedition in some part of Slovenia.  The husband and seven best friends from the mathematical university are well organized in group of so called »Walkers«. The purpose of these expeditions is to continue the friendship from student life, families and discovering the beauties of our Slovenia: landscape and people, people habits, Slovenian wine, traditional food.

 At the end of the year they choose one of themselves to be a “Boss” for the next year. His main responsibility and duty is to organize two or tree days trip for himself, the rest of a group and their families including sleeping, food, visiting cultural and natural curiosities.  The Boss chooses the starting point where we arrive by bus or by train. Cars are not allowed. Than we walk ten or even more kilometres per day. We sleep on the haylofts, tents or in beds on the tourist farms. In this way we come to know a lot of beautiful hidden places in our Slovenia.

I am glad to say that this year we had already 19^th occurrence of this event. We hope that we will keep this tradition still long time in a future. My opportunity to be active in an organisation will be again in 2010.
