Alkatraz gallery
was established in 1996 in a building that was just about to fall apart.
Artists from Metelkova changed its look completely. The building is very
colorful now, covered almost entirely with mosaics and different sculptures.And
it keeps changing.
The gallery itself is run by two "curators" (eventhough they don't like to be called that), Jadranka and Bojana. Gallery has no particular exhibiting concept and that is what makes it special - it is a place where everbody has an opportunity to exhibit.
In the recent months, there were many interesting exhibitons in Alkatraz: Damjan Kocjančič's photos, Borut Korošec's installation, Ladislav Leben's paintings, younger artists group show.
For the future we (the curators and friends) would like to become more international, that is, we would like to invite artists from elsewhere to exhibit and organize live-in artist projects.
