GRUPPA ULTRA,

founded in 1991, today part of Lutkovno gledališče Kranj (Kranj Puppet Theatre), unites the former members of the musical ensemble Železteater and artists who constantly look for new means of expression in art, conceived as experimenting with various, but equally important media. In their first season (1991/92), Gruppa Ultra staged Regeneracija 1 (Regeneration 1), a multi-media happening, which serves as the starting point for new variations - regenerations of the original theme. With Barbika -- Regeneracija št.4, Gruppa Ultra continues the cycle of Regenerations, i.e. of its continuous bodily and spiritual "rebirthing". The new (fourth) regeneration is placed in the contemporary technological context, a kind of camera obscura. The acted genre scenes (thriller!), "rough" film sequences, synthesized music and expressive puppet commentaries constitute the grim two-dimensional plane of Barbika. The body of this cloned Hollywood beauty from the pre-information period serves in the show as an inspiration for the contemporary virtual perception of a clone logged into the media networks.
