| The
baroque church of St. Justus is located in the lower part of the village.
The church dates back to 1766. It is surrounded by the churchyard walls
and the cemetery within the walls. The baroque interior and all religious
artifacts are well preserved. The entire exterior of the church is roughly
plastered, with the exception of the corners of the building where the
stone foundation is visible. In the church-tower (of the Aquilea type)
there is an old mechanical church-clock, no longer fit for use. The new
church-clock and the bells are electromechanical.
During World War Two the two church bells were taken away from the
tower by the Italian fascists. After the war the church bells were substituted
with the bells from the church of St. John. At the forthcoming 50th anniversary
of the village´s destruction during the war (held in 1991), three
new bells were cast. The biggest is dedicated to St. Justus, the patron
saint (the relief was designed by the artist Mr. S. Fakuc, village's native),
the next bell is dedicated to St. Ciril and St. Metod, whereas the smallest
is dedicated to St. Mary. In the same year the two bells acquired from
church of St. John were returned to their original place. |
