USA
FOR BEGINNERS
The
United States of America is a large country which lays on a continent
called America. The capital city of the USA is Washington DC. There are
50 states in the USA ( not counting Washington DC ). The USA's flag is
connected with that too, because we call it: »Stars and
Stripes« (the stripes represent 13 original states ). USA is
bounded by Atlantic ocean in the east, by Mexico in the south and by
Canada in the north.
They've
got federal government and a president, which is the worst till now,
George Bush Junior. Many people really believe in him. The national
motto is: »In God We Trust«, and the national symbol is the
bald eagle. The first one probably comes from history.
How
did it all begin? On the land of America, many centuries ago, lived
native Americans, who were discovered by Christopher Columbus. So how
did it happen that we come from friendly native inhabitants to the mad
president? First settlers came from Europe and destroyed the native
Americans, although they helped the settlers to survive. The slave
trade triangle was very important for many years.
The USA
have been in many wars and survived few revolutions. The important
thing for many people is that they made a new drink – Coca-Cola.
Now, in 21st century USA has got a very strong economy, they are also
car-oriented. USA has got very odd properties too, funny laws for
example. Many Americans are overweight, because they eat a lot of junk
food and don't exercise enough. Many people are rich and own a lot of
credit cards. They are still inventing strange things such as
drive-ins. Thanks to that, we can now see drive-in restaurants,
drive-in cleaners and many more. USA has a population of 250 million.
They live in big towns like Las Vegas, New York, Los
Angeles…Beyond the dark side of America, there's also a bright
one. The USA nature is very beautiful, they've got many attractions
(Miami beach, Statue of liberty…), and national parks, most
popular are Yellowstone and Grand Canyon. You should really take a look
at the real beauty!
