
History of Poljane Grammar School |
- 27 December 1889
The school was established as a Lower Grammar School by the decree of the Ministry for Education and Worship of God of Austro-Hungary.
- 1900
With a decree, the Lower Grammar School was expanded to a Higher Grammar School and received the name The Second State Grammar School in Ljubljana.
- 19 March 1907
Solemn opening and consecration of the present building.
- 21 October 1907
Beginning of instruction in the present building.
- 10 November 1918
The Grammar School was renewed by a decree of the National Government in Ljubljana. The Slovenian language became the language of teaching.
- School year 1921/22
The school finally changed from a classical to a non-classical secondary modern school. The number of students was the largest in Slovenia.
- School year 1939/40
The classical departments were opened by a decree of Ban’s (the civil governor’s) administration. From 6 June 1939 on, only girls were admitted.
- School year 1940/41
The school became the First Women’s State Grammar School in Ljubljana.
- 16 March 1942
The Italians occupied the school building and turned it into a barracks and a stable, but the school continued to operate at several other locations in Ljubljana.
- 1943
After the Italian capitulation, the school was again run at Strossmayerjeva 1.
- 1945
After the liberation, the school became a state grammar school.
- School year 1957/58
A school reform brought new changes. The Grammar school became Poljane Primary School.
- School year 1963/64
Grammar school departments were again transferred to Strossmayerjeva 1 and the new Grammar School Poljane arose. Later it was renamed “Vide Janežič” Grammar School.
- School year 1982/83
“Vide Janežič” Grammar School and “Ivan
Cankar” Grammar School were united into Secondary School for Humanities and General Culture.
- 16 May 1990
After all the reforms and changes in the society the school is now called POLJANE GRAMMAR SCHOOL.
