UBUNTU
Cilj Ubuntuja je, da s pomočjo prostega programja, ponudi uporabniku stabilen in sodoben operacijski sistem. Okrog Ubuntuja je tudi dobro razvita in številčna skupnost, vključujoč tudi forume.
Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME in Ubuntu MATE so uradni podprojekti projekta Ubuntu; prvi namesto namizja Unity uporablja KDE, drugi XFCE, tretji LXDE, četrti GNOME, zadnji pa MATE. Edubuntu je tudi uradni podprojekt, ki je zasnovan za šolsko okolje in naj bi bil primeren tudi za otroke, da bi ga uporabljali doma. Za druge projekte si oglej razdelek Ostali projekti.
MINT
Linux Mint is a community-driven Linux distribution based on Ubuntu (in turn based on Debian), bundled with a variety of free and open-source applications. It can provide full out-of-the-box multimedia support for those who choose (by ticking one box during its installation process) to include proprietary software such as multimedia codecs.
The Linux Mint project was created by Clément Lefèbvre and is actively maintained by the Linux Mint Team and community.
ELEMENTARY OS
Elementary OS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu LTS. It promotes itself as a "fast, open, and privacy-respecting" replacement to macOS and Windows and has a pay-what-you-want model. The operating system, the desktop environment (called Pantheon), and accompanying applications are developed and maintained by Elementary, Inc.
Predstavitev UBUNTU
Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian, which also includes several other popular distros like Deepin OS, Elementary OS, Raspbian, and SteamOS. The operating system is developed and maintained by Canonical and is available in three variants – Desktop, Server, and Core. The last two versions are a bit more specialized so we’re not going to talk about them too much in this article, focusing instead on the all-purpose Desktop edition.
Ubuntu OS gets a new release every six months and is currently at version 19.04 dubbed “Disco Dingo”. Meanwhile, Canonical also puts out LTS (long-term support) releases every two years. These releases benefit from up to five years of free maintenance and security updates from the developers, with an additional five years of support available after that in exchange for a fee. The current such release at the time of this writing is 18.04 LTS dubbed “Bionic Beaver”.

Linux Mint 20.1 is, without a doubt, the most polished release I've seen come from the developers. The improvements they've made to the desktop make it such that anyone jump into this operating system and start using it--and I do mean anyone. By continuing to stick with a most familiar desktop metaphor, Linux Mint is immediately familiar to any user of any skill level. The simplistic desktop menu is a joy to use. It's not filled with bells and whistles, it hasn't reinvented the wheel, it just is and it works to absolute perfection.
Personally, I find desktops like GNOME more appealing, but knowing the average computer user like I do, Cinnamon is far ahead of GNOME, when it comes to user friendliness. The latest release of Cinnamon is a perfectly spiced icing on an already delicious cake--one that would even make the likes of Paul Hollywood offer up the coveted handshake.
There is one feature, new to Cinnamon, that (for me) really stands out. That feature is the new Web Apps tool. For anyone that likes to create apps from websites, Linux Mint 20.1 makes this incredibly easy. Launch the Web Apps tool from the menu, click the + button, fill out the necessary information, and click OK
Predstavitev Elementary OS
On boot-up, we’re greeted with the Elementary OS Pantheon desktop, which you can tell took inspiration from Mac OS. That’s not a bad thing however as many people are fond of the look and feel and it just works.
There is now a new welcome screen with the recent 5.1 release. It walks you through some basic options such as enabling location reporting, setting up Night Light which reduces eye strain at specific times and more.
The issue here, however, is that this web browser simply isn’t good enough by today’s standards. It froze up on numerous websites I tried it on causing the whole system to lock up.
While it’s not a terrible web browser, it’s certainly not something that’s commonly used or up to par when compared to the standard Firefox and Chrome/Chromium browsers. Sure, you can install different ones from the app store but I think it’s a waste to install something most new users are going to find less than adequate. Epiphany is not in the same league as the big boys and is likely going to not be able to correctly be able to display complex sites as well.
