WINDROSE MOTORGLIDER

By Jim Maupin Ltd

The Windrose motorglider is a simple, inexpensive, quick to build, self launching glider, and was developed by Jim Maupin and Irv Culver The glider is designed in such way that could be build easy.

Jim Maupin and Irv Culver's studies made them conclude that "quick to build" should take precedence over other factors. By eliminating all internal controls, cables, pulleys, brackets, push tubes and hinges, they could produce a unique, quick-to-build wing.

The main materials for the sailplane are: styrofoam , glas fibre, epoxy resin and wood.

THE MAUPIN LTD COMPANY IS CLOSED. THE PLANS FOR THEIR DESIGNS ARE NO MORE FOR SELL.
I keep this page on my website to promote this concept of motorised sailplane, because I believe that is ingenious concept.

ABOUT 15M WINDROSE WING The 15 m wingspan version of Windrose motorglider caused that there was a lot of discussions if the wing is safe or not. One pilot of windrose insisted that wing is dangerous (based on his experiences and crash) because it is easy to stall the wing tip during thermalling. Others pilots reports that wing is safe, without bad behaviour.
Because of the building method of wing, each wing can be a little different than expected from plans, and accurate of airfoil shape and wing twist is up to builders skills and his feeling for tolerances.

AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF 15M WINDROSE WING
I believe in skils and knowledge of late Jim Maupin and his friend Irv Culver, that they designed safe sailplane. But I decide anyway that aerodynamic analysis of 15m wing will show (well theoretically only) how the wing behaves when one put it to high angles of attack during flight at different flaperon settings in order to find out where the stalling starts to occure. I will publish here my findings and results of analysis. If you are interested for results, please keep visiting this page as results will be aded shortly...
