PRESOV
Basic data
Presov is situated at the center of
the region of East Slovakia, surrounded by the Kosice Basin, the Slanec
mountains and the Saris highlands.
The historical center of Presov
lies 252 m above sea level.
The downtown has been declared a
national cultural relic.
The climate is wild to moderately
wild. The warmest month is July (average temperature: 19.5 oC),
the coldest month is January (3.5 oC).
With its total area of 73.14 km2
Presov is the third largest town in Slovakia. Its population amounts to
100 000 people.
Presov ranks among the most
significant historical towns in Slovakia. In 1999 it celebrated its 700th
anniversary of granting municipal privileges.

Cultural
- historical monuments
Parisch church of St. Nicholas is a
most impressive Gothic building dating from 1347. It dominates the
downtown.
Greek-Catholic bishop palace with the classical facade.
Cathedral church of St. John the Baptist from the 17th century
reconstructed in the Baroque style.
Franciscan church with a two-tower Baroque facade dates back to about
1380.
Calvary is a Baroque complex built up on the hill top above the town.
Orthodox cathedral of Alexander Nevsky was built in the eastern style.
Except for churches there are a lot of interesting Baroque &
Renaissance building, e.g. Evangelical college, town-hall - the present
seat of the Mayor and the municipality, Klobusiczky palace, Rakoczi
palace, Bosak´s Bank, Caraffa´s Prison, Museum of Wines etc.
Presov has a lot of shopping possibilities and services including
restaurants, confectionaries, discotheques & night clubs.
The tow has many primary schools, hotel and business academies. The Presov
University with its faculties offers students to continue their education.
