Fountain of the Three Carniolan Rivers
in front of the Ljubljana Town Hall (1743-1751), detail

Francesco Robba Francesco Robba is the leading sculptor of the Baroque period in Ljubljana. Born in Venice, he was active in Ljubljana from 1727 onwards. Despite the remarkable quality of his work, he has remained practically unknown to the international scholarly public. An international scientific symposium, held in Ljubljana in November 1998, was dedicated to him as well as to other problems relating to Venetian, and Italian, Baroque sculpture. The participants included a number of notable authorities in this field. In 2000, a collection of lectures was published under the title Francesco Robba and the Venetian Baroque Sculpture of the Eighteenth Century; the submitted papers appear in English and Italian. More about Francesco Robba and the symposium organized in honor of the tercentenary of his birth will be published in one of the future issues of this journal.
