The House of archduke Johann
In 1819, an agricultural cooperative was established. During the period of the imperial monarchy the authority supported and influenced the development of rustic architecture in the 19th century. Through planned and supportive measures a farmhouse developed from a historical architectural substance. Innovations in such houses enabled contemporary living conditions. In honour of efforts by the Archduke Johann on behalf of rustic architecture of Viktor von Geramb the house was renamed "The House of Archduke Johann".
Between 1822 and 1859 such cooperatives also existed in Slovenia.
This type of house is made of bricks and has only one floor. The ground plan is divided into three parts. In the middle is a hall, with two rooms oc each side. The kitchen has a stove.
This type of frontal house with a gently sloping tiled roof always has a cellar. The windows have wooden shutters, and quite often the doors and windows have frames with Biedermeier plaster decoration. House corners are also often decorated with rustic ornamentation.
A typical feature of this type of house is the two-sided staircase, often facing a road, with a gable end which is supported by pillars. This pillar portico gives the house a classicist appearance.
