Project Meeting on
Malta
25th – 30th January, 2005
The Project Meeting
was attended by Project Co-ordinators Mirjam Francetič and Magdalena
Bobek, our Headmistress Sonja Vodopivec and teachers Mateja Penko,
Dragica Gerželj Marinšek and Slavka Glažar.
Our main aim during
this visit was to prepare, with the other participating schools,
our plans for the next year of the Project. Our Maltese hosts
had prepared however daily meetings and other activities which
filled each day and spilled over into the late hours each evening.
Our accomodation was arranged in Sliema, a town about half an
hour from the capital city Valletta.
During our stay we visited four schools, where the education system
follows the British system. From the age of six to eleven boys
and girls attend school together, then they attend separate schools
until the age of fifteen. Students wear school uniforms and schools
are both public and private.
Some of the schools
, like for instance Guze' Diacono,Zejtung Junior Lyceum in the
town of Zejtun, which is attended by girls aged eleven to fifteen,
gave the impression of an old, not particularly well appointed
school, however we saw some beautiful works displayed there done
by the students in their Art and Technics classes.
The Margaret Mortimer Junior Lyceum was a more modern school,
with very up-to-date equipment. We were also warmly welcomed at
the school for children with special needs, where the teachers
from the Drama Unit School performed a play for the children.
Our friends from the Drama School, Alexandra, Deo, John and their
colleagues showed us some of the workshops with the students,
acting out some scenes of things that can happen at school, with
these they try to help with problems that arise at the school.
