A little bit about 'ME'I live and work in Slovenia. I am of Slovenian parents, but I grew up in Canada. I am married and have two sons. My family and I live in the country, about 20 km from Postojna, which is well known for its underground world phenomena. I have always loved studying languages. I have a degree in English, French and German and I can speak and write Italian. During my student years I worked part time as a company translator and as a tour guide in the Postojna Caves. I love challenges. I enjoy talking to people, advising and planning new activities. Even though my teaching career has concentrated mainly on teaching children between the ages of 10-15, I have tutored English and French to secondary school students as well as students in higher education and in business schools. For the past four years I have helped to coordinate the Comenius project at our school. I also work as a coordinator for international cooperation in connection with the Slovenian Ministry of Education and Sports and The European Union Programmes Service for Socrates. One of the main tasks involved here is disseminating the European dimension in schools and regions in our country. I love planning international activities such as the Spring Day event, which was a great success. I began to take an interest in ICT a few years ago and have found it to be very useful in all fields of learning. When our school first became involved in European projects in 1999, this media was essential. Today I can't work without it. I have given quite a few presentations and workshops on integrating ICT into the school curriculum within the Socrates international projects. I myself am constantly searching the internet or reading up on new teaching ideas. I learn something new every day. Even though I am not a computer teacher, I use ICT in my lessons whenever I have the opportunity. I find it motivating for the students, especially the slow ones. I have also taken courses in ICT, the latest being the CALL course in Edinburg, Scotland, in the summer of 2003. I believe it to be a necessity in today's education regardless of a person's age. At the moment my main objective is to bring modern technology to pupils who, for various reasons, have little or no access to computers. I have had some good results up to now. With a little perseverance and good will a lot can be done. |
